Curriculum? What’s That?
April 3rd, 2008 by ToniNo lesson plans or sit-down “school time” means I answer the children’s questions as they come up or more accurately I share as much as I know and then we research the rest together. Fortunately, the existence of the internet and our local library means the answers are never far away. Below are some resources we’ve found for various topics.
Astronomy
- Space Exploration (a Two-Can Discovery Book)
- Planets: A Solar System Stickerbook (a Reading Rainbow book)
- Amazing Space (website)
- Barbie of Swan Lake (DVD has a constellation game)
- Stellarium (planetarium type software - free download)
- The Magic Schoolbus: Space Adventures (video)
- Hands on/Personal experience with telescopes and star-gazing
Music
- GMajorMusicTheory.org (free piano music / lessons)
- Music Theory Mat from Johnson String Instruments
- Finale Notepad (music notation software - free download)
- A plethora of instruments from professional to homemade.
- Various Little Einstein’s videos (I’m not too keen on these myself but the kids love them.)
Reading
- Read-aloud story time almost every day (This is me reading a story/chapter to the children.)
- Frequent library visits
- ClicknRead Phonics (online program - small fee)
- Step Into Reading Books
- A healthy dose of “It will happen when it happens. Don’t push it.”
**This is by no means a comprehensive list. I will update it as I find the time.
