Yet another mommy blogging about how cute her kids are.

On Being Practical

by Toni

If I had to use one word to describe myself it would be “practical.”  A lot of times people mistake practical for boring and while that can be true, sometimes “practical” can take you to unexpected and memorable places.

For example, if you had hungry kids in the car and you needed to get food into their bellies quickly.  You might go to a drive-thru for lunch.  (practical) But if your budget was a bit tight you might get an assortment of items to share instead of getting each kid their very own kids’ meal with the completely useless toy and sugary drinks they didn’t need.  (practical) Then you might realize that sharing food in the car is not as easy as you had hoped.  If there were a park nearby, and if the wind weren’t blowing bitter cold, you might go there. (practical)  But if there weren’t and it was then you might go here.

(unexpected and memorable …. and practical)

The children thought it a great adventure to be eating our lunch in the loft of a Lowe’s sample building.

It was.

It also sparked unexpected discussion on the plight of the homeless.  (memorable)

Adventure happens in the such practical places, doesn’t it?
