December 17th, 2008 by ToniThe upside of being a contractor at a company is that typically you take home a bit more than the employees of that same company. The downside is that the employees have job security … and you don’t. The powers that be can simply decide that your contract is over. They can do it at any time. For example, they could do it today. And you would clean out your desk and you would leave. It’s not personal and as a contractor you understand the risk going in. Which is why though you might be surprised by the immediacy you would also be prepared. You would call your agent to say “Go ahead and seal that job you were working on for me.” Then you would take your family out to have ice cream. Because ice cream is never tastier than when you’ve just lost your job.





Stinky. That’s what it is: big, fat, and stinky. And hairy. Bleh.

having an agent sounds so high-falutin’ : ) i hope your ice cream was tasty and i hope things work out quickly.
People are losing their jobs left and right at Dave’s company. And right before Christmas! While Dave keeps being told his job is secure, I’m shaking in my shoes.
