To What Do I Owe This Unexpected Surprise?
December 5th, 2008 by ToniWhen the young man said he was with the Boy Scouts and would I like to buy some popcorn, I smiled. Of course, because it’s the BOY SCOUTS and it’s POPCORN. I ordered two tins even though the price seemed a bit steep. It was for a good cause and besides those popcorn tins are always as big as pumpkins.
It is true the tins that arrived were as big as pumpkins just not quite like I’d expected.
And to add insult to injury … they’re not even full or decorative. To whom could I possibly gift a half empty tin with smiling boy scouts on it?
Next year if I spend $35 on popcorn it will be here where the quality will be better and I’ll get three times as much.
Sorry, Boy Scouts. Next year I’ll be prepared.

We quit buying the boy scouts’ popcorn because it was usually stale when we got it. Give me girl scout cookies any day! lol
Oh my goodness, that is ridiculous!! Ew!
As a mom of two scouts, I must say this really hurts. First off, you are not being honest to say that you purchased that tiny tin for $35.
You do understand that you’re not buying popcorn, but supporting a good and worthy organization, right? Fund-raisers are not about getting Wal-Mart low prices.
As more and more fathers opt out of raising their own sons, an organization like Boy Scouts is there standing in the gap–and not backing down on their God-centered values no matter what left-wing opposition they get–and they’re getting a lot.
If you’re going to give negative publicity to an organization, at least do so responsibly–know the organization that you’re so willingly dissing and who you’re ultimately really hurting. Don’t exaggerate the truth. Maybe next time give the $9 you paid for that tin as a direct donation that will go 100% to the scout. We’ve had many people do that, and it is much more appreciated than a negative comment about how they can buy much more for their money at Wal-Mart!

I agree with Jen - the girl scouts have struck fundraiser gold with their cookies. It’s true that one often participates in fund raisers to help the organization raise funds, but getting a good product in return makes it a surefire success. I’d buy girl scout cookies even if they were illegal. Hmmm…tagalongs.
