I found this snippet in my drafts folder. It’s from last year but it made me smile so I thought to share.
~~~~~~~~
Because Sister is 6 you will not think it unusual that she sleeps through the night…mostly. Occasionally a scary film or monster in the closet will rear its ugly head and bad dreams will ensue. For that reason I sprang out of bed at 2:34am this morning. A plaintive, “Mom” came from the room next door and I knew she needed comfort. Imagine my surprise at finding not tears but sparkling eyes… and a sheepish grin. “Mama, How many days until Christmas?”
Visions of sugar plums indeed.
Put house on the market - check.
Look at slightly less than 14 billion new house possibilities online and in person - check.
Begin packing - check.
Take a deep breath, push all thoughts of moving aside and enjoy the upcoming holiday - check What!? There’s a holiday coming up…. when did this happen?!
It seems that this post was not as funny as I intended it to be. When I read Kim’s comment I drafted a long defensive reply about how it was supposed to be funny and how I did indeed spend $35 but now as I finally get a chance to type in my thoughts none of that really matters.
Kim - I am sorry to have offended you. I agree that the Boy Scouts are an excellent organization and I applaud the work they do. I would never have made a purchase from them had I thought otherwise. Thank you for the reminder that purchasing products is not the only way to give money to an organization. In the future, I will make my donations directly to the Scouts and will encourage others to do the same.
Me to my defensive self: “See, that wasn’t so hard, was it?”
The upside of being a contractor at a company is that typically you take home a bit more than the employees of that same company. The downside is that the employees have job security … and you don’t. The powers that be can simply decide that your contract is over. They can do it at any time. For example, they could do it today. And you would clean out your desk and you would leave. It’s not personal and as a contractor you understand the risk going in. Which is why though you might be surprised by the immediacy you would also be prepared. You would call your agent to say “Go ahead and seal that job you were working on for me.” Then you would take your family out to have ice cream. Because ice cream is never tastier than when you’ve just lost your job.
When the young man said he was with the Boy Scouts and would I like to buy some popcorn, I smiled. Of course, because it’s the BOY SCOUTS and it’s POPCORN. I ordered two tins even though the price seemed a bit steep. It was for a good cause and besides those popcorn tins are always as big as pumpkins.
It is true the tins that arrived were as big as pumpkins just not quite like I’d expected.
And to add insult to injury … they’re not even full or decorative. To whom could I possibly gift a half empty tin with smiling boy scouts on it?
Next year if I spend $35 on popcorn it will be here where the quality will be better and I’ll get three times as much.
Sorry, Boy Scouts. Next year I’ll be prepared.
I heart baking soda. It is the epitome of a multi-tasking tool. If you didn’t know this already go here and be enlightened. My problem was not finding uses for baking soda but finding a way to use it easily. Enter the parmesan cheese shaker. I let this sit in my fridge to absorb odors and pull it out for a quick shake when I need to clean something. No hassle cleaning on the cheap works for me.
~Another something from back in October~
Chances are if someone* gives your daughter an activity book for her birthday she’ll be most enthusiastic about the single most involved project listed. And you’ll have make it happen for her because … it’s her birthday. On the upside once all is said and done your efforts will be duly rewarded with multiple smiles and “Look at me!’s” and a significant increase in courage.
*Thanks, Jenni
